An ICU ambulance is a critical-care vehicle for patients who cannot safely travel without continuous monitoring and, often, breathing support. Nurvo Ambulance runs ICU ambulances with a transport ventilator across Mumbai 24 hours a day, for emergencies, hospital to hospital transfers and long-distance moves.
Because a critically ill patient's condition can change on the road, the vehicle is set up to continue the kind of support the patient was receiving in the ward. The treating hospital normally decides whether ICU-level transport is needed; we then match the vehicle and equipment to that advice and plan the route around the patient, not the clock.
When is an ICU ambulance needed?
Families usually call us for an ICU ambulance in one of these situations:
- The patient is on a ventilator, or may need breathing support during the journey
- A transfer out of an ICU or high-dependency unit to another hospital
- The patient needs continuous heart-rhythm and oxygen-level monitoring on the way
- An unstable patient has to be moved for a scan, surgery or specialist treatment
- A critically ill patient is being shifted to another city
If you are not sure, tell the doctor treating the patient that you are arranging transport and ask which level of ambulance they recommend. Share that advice with us on the call and we will send the matching vehicle. When in doubt, it is safer to book the higher level of care.
Equipment and what's included
Every ICU ambulance is checked before it is dispatched, and the oxygen supply is matched to the expected length of the trip. The main equipment on board is:
- Transport ventilator
- Cardiac monitor & defibrillator
- Syringe / infusion pump
How booking and pricing work
Call or WhatsApp 9930000788 with the details: the patient's current condition, whether they are on a ventilator or oxygen, the pickup hospital or address, and the destination. We confirm availability and tell you the charge on the same call.
The charge depends on the type of ambulance and the distance, plus any waiting time at either end, so we do not publish a fixed rate. For planned transfers, booking a few hours ahead gives both hospitals time to prepare the handover and the paperwork.
Coverage across Mumbai
ICU ambulances are available for every part of Mumbai, from Dahisar and Borivali in the north-west to Dadar, Worli and Chembur. In the western suburbs we usually reach patients within 10–30 minutes; elsewhere in the city the usual response is 30–60 minutes, depending on traffic. For journeys to other cities, see our outstation ambulance service.
Helpful guides
ICU Ambulance: frequently asked questions
Can a doctor travel with the patient in the ICU ambulance?
If the treating doctor advises that a doctor or nurse should accompany the patient, tell us when you book. We will discuss what can be arranged for your trip before the ambulance is dispatched.
Is the ICU ambulance available at night and on holidays?
Yes. The ICU ambulance with ventilator can be booked 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including nights, Sundays and public holidays.
What should we keep ready before the ICU ambulance arrives?
Keep the latest transfer or discharge summary, recent reports and scans, the patient's ID, a written list of current medicines and the receiving hospital's contact number ready. One family member can usually travel with the patient.
How soon can an ICU ambulance reach us in Mumbai?
In the western suburbs we usually arrive within 10–30 minutes, and in other parts of Mumbai within 30–60 minutes, depending on traffic and the exact pickup point. Calling early and sharing a location pin helps.
Can an ICU ambulance take a patient to another city?
Yes. Long-distance ICU transfers are planned around the route, rest stops and the oxygen and ventilator support needed for the whole journey. Call us to discuss the trip before you fix a time with the hospital.
How is the ICU ambulance charge worked out?
It depends on the ambulance type and the distance, and on waiting time if the handover takes long. We give you the exact amount on the call, before the vehicle leaves.
